From its earliest days of settlement some one hundred and sixty years ago, Narrabri has earned a reputation as a very rich agricultural district. In March 2003 a visionary group of Narrabri locals held the first Nosh on the Namoi to celebrate and promote the diverse range of local and regional produce, art and music within the unique environment of the Namoi River.
Nosh on the Namoi began with participants from 27 entities which allowed local and regional producers to present products such as olives, ice cream, wine, crayfish, smoked trout, beef, herbal tea, locally produced pasta, preserves, chicken, oysters, condiments, caterers and restaurants.
Tall Poppy (condiments and sauces) and Bellata Gold (Durum pasta) were both launched at this festival and have developed products that are in demand around the country.
The response to the inaugural Nosh on the Namoi was overwhelmingly positive and was set to become an annual event for the Narrabri region. In 2004 the festival was enhanced to include 42 exhibitors housed in individual marquees and an exhibition of sculpture and art on the Riverside. Nosh on the Namoi 2005 continued the enthusiasm for regional produce and art with over 4000 visitors attending the festival from the local area, regional towns and metropolitan centres.
Nosh on the Namoi is a not-for-profit event allowing locals to interact with volunteers, participants, stall holders, producers, and artists while tasting different products and enjoying cuisine in a relaxing atmosphere with live music.
